Welcome to What am I doing with my life!

If you are anything like me, the path you started down in college didn’t turn out to be what you wanted to do by the time you got out. My name is Kerry and I quit my job in December, 2009 because I wanted to do something more rewarding and fulfilling with my life. At the time I was working for a non-profit focused on passing climate change legislation here in the US, a noble cause with some great coworkers. Prior to that I spent 2007-2008 working the presidential election in New Hampshire and Virginia. I kind of fell into that line of work when I took an internship just prior to the start of my senior year of college. Long story short, I did a good job, was having fun at the time, and took time off from school to keep going. After graduation I jumped back on with the general election but found that I was no longer interested in living the campaign lifestyle. After that ended I thought I wanted to do policy work and went to work as the National Field Operations Coordinator for the aforementioned non-profit. Soon, I realized it wasn’t the job or the position, it was the field I had chosen.

Politics was something that I no longer wanted to work in. I looked at what my bosses were doing, and how they were living. I realized I didn’t like where my path was taking me at all: working 12 hours at the office and going home to keep working until midnight or later. I started this site around that time to begin exploring what I wanted to do with my life. Eventually, I made up my mind to make a serious change. I packed up and moved from DC to Cape Cod where I grew up.

Whatamidoingwithmylife.com started as an exploration of my journey, but one day I realized it could be something much more. It can be a resource to help others in similar positions find what they want in life. After I got back from Virginia I found that I didn’t even know what I liked to do for fun any more. I had worked 18 hour days non-stop for 8 months. I know there are others in that position, and waking up to realize one day that you don’t even know how to have fun any more is a startling and profoundly scary feeling. I’m here to help you get back on track, to help you figure out what you want to do with your life.
